    There was optimism at the start of the season as Star's management team of Darren Smith and Kenny Rafferty assembled a strong looking squad, bringing in experience to the team in the shape of Adam Nelson, Eck Christie and Craig Hume. However, the season began to unravel with early exits to all the cups and only 2 league wins by the end of September. There was another league win over Sauchie Juniors in late October, but a run of four subsequent defeats that saw 19 goals conceded led to the resignations of Smith and Rafferty on the 16th of November 2019.

    Former Star player Chris King was quickly brought in and recorded a win over Blackburn United in his first game in charge. However, by the end of February there had been no further wins and Star were rooted firmly to the bottom of the league.

    There was some good news towards the end of February when Newtongrange Star's application for an SFA Licence was accepted and would be passed to the SFA Board for approval later in the year.

    External influences then intervened when, on the 13th of March 2020, the SFA announced that all football activity was to be suspended due to the outbreak of coronavirus. The season would not be completed and was officially declared over on the 24th of April. Bo'ness United were announced as champions and promoted to the Lowland League. There would also be no relegation, which benefitted the Star who were sat at the bottom of the table when football was suspended.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, on the 13th of March 2020 the Scottish Football Association suspended all football. On the 24th of April 2020 the East of Scotland League announced that the league would be declared complete. Bo'ness United were declared champions and promoted to the Lowland League. There would be no relegation from the Premier Division. Tynecastle, Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale and Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts were promoted into the Premier Division.
