    A new dawn for Newtongrange Star as the club started life as a member of the East of Scotland League and at tier 6 of the Scottish League Pyramid.

    Due to the influx of new clubs the leagues had been organised into three conferences with the top five from each conference guaranteed to be in the new Premier Division from the following season. This setup ensured the better teams would soon be playing each other again, but did lead to numerous high scoring wins.

    There was an early season defeat to Dunipace in the Alex Jack Cup, as Star suffered a painful 3-0 defeat. Although better progress was made in the Qualifying League Cup, the South Challenge Cup, Qualifying League Cup and King Cup, although Star's best run was the quarter final of the King Cup.

    The league campaign started with a frustrating draw with Oakley United. Further disappointing results against Leith Athletic, Penicuik Athletic, Arniston Rangers and Easthouses Lily meant Star's challenge for the top spot in the league was over by the New Year. A few weeks later, following a 3-0 defeat to Hill of Beath Hawthorn in the South Challenge Cup, Stevie McLeish resigned as manager. Colin Affleck and Jamie Burrell took temporary charge until a permanent replacement was found in Darren Smith and Kenny Rafferty.
