    The Star ended the twentieth century on a positive note. With a series of good wins, the Star sat towards the top end of the table and after wins over Haddington Athletic and Saltcoats Victoria had finished the year by drawing 2-2 with Hill of Beath Hawthorn in the third round of the Scottish Junior Cup. However, there had been two league defeats to Linlithgow Rose and these would prove to be crucial.

    The new millennium brought renewed hope to many and the Star were no exception. A single goal from Kevin Milne accounted for Hill of Beath Hawthorn in the replayed tie. The Star followed up that good result with a 3-0 win at Dundee Violet with two goals from Tommy Graham and a single from Stevie Rixon. Aberdeen side Sunnybank were defeated 2-0. The goals came from Graham once more and old campaigner Tony O'Hara. That victory set up a quarter-final in Glasgow against Benburb. There was a crowd of 900 in Tinto Park to watch a close game. Rixon scored for the Star, but Benburb ran out 2-1 winners. Benburb would lose to Whitburn in the semi-final on penalties, who in turn would secure the Scottish Junior Cup against Johnstone Burgh also by virtue of a penalty shoot out.

    The Star put together a good run of league victories over the remainder of the season winning at Camelon (3-2), Bonnyrigg Rose (1-0) and Whitburn (3-0), but Linlithgow Rose kept on winning also to secure the First Division championship by a single point.
