STORY OF THE SEASON

    Pre-season had been dominated with the big money spending at Ballingry Rovers who had been signing a squad full of senior experience. The Star too had splashed out bringing in Keiron Renton, Scott Gibson and Paul Tansey from Musselburgh Athletic.

    There was a touch of deja vu to the League Cup as Star once again won the group, defeated Sauchie Juniors in the semi-final and faced Linlithgow Rose in the final. Unfortunately, the outcome of the final was also the same and Star went down 3-0.

    The Scottish Junior Cup saw Star win convincingly 6-1 at Whitburn Juniors, who had fallen away from being the force they once were. One team that were still as strong as ever were Auchinleck Talbot, who the Star faced in the next round. Talbot took the lead after only 1 minute so the outcome looked ominous. However, the team fought hard and only some desperate defending at the end of the match kept the scoreline level. Ultimately, Star exited the tournament.

    The Premier League campaign would dominate the season though. Star lost the opening match, going down 3-1 at Dundee Violet as well as suffering a similar defeat to Ballingry Rovers. Yet the team soon found consistency and gradually reached the top of the table. The crunch game came in March with the visit to Ballingry Rovers. Star took the lead through Craig O'Reilly, but Rovers got ahead in the second half. The match turned again though when Joe Dunbar was fouled by Rovers' Dougie Cameron. Gary Cherrie converted the spot kick. The hapless Cameron then fouled Ali Forster and another penalty was awarded. Once again Gary Cherrie scored and Star were winners. Star played out their final league matches, but had to wait to see if Ballingry Rovers would catch them through their remaining games. They couldn't and Star were crowned league champions and promoted back to the East Superleague.
