    There was a disappointing exit in the first round of the early season League Cup to Harthill Royal, but the 2003/04 season gave the Star supporters a good run in the Scottish Junior Cup to enjoy. Having disposed of Crossgates Primrose, and Superleague side Lochee United in earlier rounds, the Star met another Superleague side in the form of Bathgate Thistle at New Victoria Park in the fourth round. James Robson had opened the scoring only for Bathgate Thistle to equalise. The game was poised at 1-1 when the ball was knocked back to the Thistle goalkeeper who missed it and then turned to watch it trundle into the net to give the Star a bizarre winner. In the fifth round a large crowd gathered at New Victoria Park for a local derby with Musselburgh Athletic. The game ended 0-0 before 900 spectators and the Star went down 4-2 in the replay at Olivebank despite goals from Kenny Munro and Kevin Milne.

    With the league only eighteen games long, any slip-ups would prove costly. The Star dropped too many points and ended the season in fourth place a massive twenty points behind league winners Camelon who had thumped the Star 5-0 at Carmuirs Park in early October.

    During a warm-up in a league match away to Harthill Royal, Star player Richie McCaul had to be whisked away by police after they received a threat to stab him on the field of play. Richie was a warden at nearby Shotts Prison.

    The lack of league games also led to the introduction of a Supplementary Cup so that teams requiring additional games could extend their season. The Star were drawn into a mini-league with Tranent, Dunbar United and Haddington Athletic, but could not pick up enough points to make the semi-final.
