    Continuing a recent trend, the Star started the season with inconsistent results. There were early season defeats to newly promoted Fauldhouse United (1-3) and Camelon (1-3) as well as good wins over Penicuik Athletic (5-2), Linlithgow Rose (2-1) and Arniston Rangers (3-2) with goals from Watson, Tulloch and Prentice.

    The Star played eight matches in the Scottish Junior Cup, but did not progress beyond the fourth round. Two games were needed to overcome Perth Celtic in the first round. Three games were needed against Irvine Meadow before the Star secured a 3-2 victory. Goals from Brown (3), Small and McColl earned a 5-0 win away to Hurlford United and marked an uncommon victory in Ayrshire. The fourth round draw meant a home tie against another Ayrshire side in the shape of Auchinleck Talbot. John Hislop scored twice for the Star, but the match ended 2-2. The Star put up a fight in the replay through in Ayrshire, but recent trends were continued as the Star lost 2-1. The Star's consolation goal came from Brian Murphy.

    Possession of the Dryborough Cup was relinquished at the semi-final stage as the Star went down 3-2 to Sauchie. However, there was once again to be at least one piece of silverware in the Star's trophy cabinet come the end of the season. A new trophy sponsored by Thornton Sports had been introduced. The first round was played on a two-legged basis. The Star seemed to have secured passage to the next round by winning 4-0 in the first leg away to Tranent with goals from Hislop (2), Duncan and McColl. However, a remarkable comeback in the return leg from Tranent meant the men from Forresters Park had levelled the tie with a 4-0 lead at Victoria Park. With only a few minutes to go and extra time looming, the Star snatched a goal and scraped into the next round. The Star then fought through to the final where they met Whitburn at Prestonfield, Linlithgow. Kevin McColl scored in a match that finished 1-1. In the replay at Newbyres Park, Lindsay Hamilton opened the scoring for the Star before Kevin McColl once again scored and assured that the Star's name was the first to appear on the new trophy.

    With only 13 points separating top from bottom, the league was a tight affair. The Star once again finished mid-table far from the business ends of the league. The closeness of the league meant there was room for some surprise placings with newly promoted Fauldhouse United securing the championship and Bonnyrigg Rose being relegated.
